1. Do I really need a real estate website?

These days…you do. Every homebuyer and home seller under the age of 60 (and many over 60) does their initial research online. By the time they’re out and about meeting agents they’ve already ‘virtually’ met a few online. The winning agents these days do so because they get their bid in while potential clients are in the stage that matters—the research phase, before they’ve begun meeting other agents.

Getting your bid in early is important—but that’s not the only reason you need a real estate website. After meeting a potential client, trust us—they Google you immediately. They likely even do it moments after meeting you on their smartphone which is why you not only need a website but a mobile-version as well.

2. Why should I choose Real Estate Website Canada?

In our opinion (which is totally and utterly unbiased of course), the choice is simple. We’re cheaper, we make more attractive websites (than other people in a similar price range—but not the $8,000 custom-built ones necessarily) AND we offer you tons of free technologies like CRM integration, LiveChat, integrated video, email-marketing, lead-capturing, etc. Check out our portfolio and gallery to see how attractive our sites truly after, our pricing page to see how much cheaper we truly are and our services page to see a taste of what we offer. Here is an excellent explanation of how easy the process is.

3. What other products and services can REwebsites Canada offer my business?

This question is somewhat difficult for us to answer because we leverage WordPress as a Content Management System (CMS) platform. It offers tens of thousands of capabilities and technologies—and we can offer you any and all of its existing technologies, without charging you a penny (on initial implementation—after the fact we generally charge $25 for most technology implementations).

4. What is IDX Integration?

IDX stands for Internet Data Exchange. Think of it as a sprinkler. MLS releases this large stream of data (listings) into its digital garden hose, and you plug it into your sprinkler (the IDX)–which displays all that data cleanly on to your website. IDX takes data from MLS and auto-populates it onto your website, and makes it searchable.

5. Do I Really Need IDX?

Not at all. A number of years ago this technology became available and it was state-of-the-art. It is still a cool technology, but now that every single agent has it, it’s no longer a client-impressing technology. Also, now that MLS data is public thanks to Realtor.ca—nobody cares about listings being searchable on your website.

If anything IDX holds you back because you think it does something that it doesn’t: attract customers. What attracts potential customers is uploading your own, SEO-optimized listings. This is what attracts visitors to your website

6. What payment methods do you accept?

For invoicing we use a payment company called PayPal. It is 101% safe and secure, and is the largest payment system on the internet. It is used by every large retailer in North America, including Ebay.

To pay with PayPal you simply click on the ‘pay invoice’ button in the email invoice we send you and then enter in your credit card information. PayPal has safety guarantees built into it so you have a venue for having your money returned should you not get what you paid for.

7. What’s your favourite colour?

Yellow, thanks for asking.

8. Are your websites template-based or custom-built?

Both. Sort of. As we mentioned above we use WordPress to build our websites, and WordPress has hundreds of thousands of pre-made ‘themes’. A theme is sort of like a template but much more complex and empowers you to do more. This means you have hundreds of thousands of choices for what your website will look like, meaning it will be custom to you—because even if every agent on the planet use WordPress there would still only be 4 or 5 agents in the world with the same website as you.

Once we install a theme we can customize it to your liking by moving elements around, changing colours, adding custom graphics and adding whatever functionalities and technologies you would like—so in that sense, the theme is customized to you.

9. Can I customize or add features to my Real Estate Websites Canada website?

Absolutely. Any feature available in WordPress, which is tens of thousands, is available to you. We include any feature available through WordPress for free during the initial website setup. After the initial setup, should you want another feature added in the future it will cost you a support ticket, which are generally $25, and can be completed in 48 hours.

If you want a custom feature not available in WordPress (we can’t imagine what that would be) we will give you a quote on what it would cost.

10. Do you think the Leafs will win the cup this year?

Well, this content will be on the site for years—but we can still safely say no. (Prove us wrong Leafs—prove us wrong!)

11. Can I change the content of my web pages on my own?

Yup.

Oh, did you want a little more of an explanation than that? WordPress is an easily-updatable platform. You simply sign in via the login we give you and use the simple menu on the left-hand-side to update pages, blog posts or listings. We give you step-by-step instructions so that you can learn the process (although it is about as easy as using Hotmail and many people won’t need instructions).

12. Can I upload/update my listings myself?

Yup. We’ll even show you how.

13. Can you do it for me?

Sure, for money. Hey, we’ve gotta eat right! We can write-up fancy-shmancy, SEO-optimized listings that attract Google searchers and upload them on your site—all for $40 per listing.

14. What kind of support do you offer?

As we don’t charge an expensive monthly fee like our competitors, we offer incident-based support. When you want to change something on your website we charge $25 for simple changes (like photos, features, functionalities, etc). We feel this is extremely fair as our competitors charge between $40-$60 every month, whether you use their support or not.

15. How will I know how many people are going to my website?

Google Analytics, that’s how. Google Analytics is a free tool offered by Google that tracks your visitors and their behaviour. It is more in-depth than you’ll like ever use, but the basics it can tell you are: how many people visit your site, how many people visit your site more than once, what your users’ favourite page(s) are, which pages they tend to leave the site after reading (you’ve gotta get rid of these!), how many pages the average user clicks and visitor flow (where they start and where they end).

Google Analytics is free.

16. How long will it take for my website to be up-and-running?

Generally it takes about 4 days to get your website up and running, although this can vary by a day or two depending on how long it takes your hosting company to setup WordPress. It also varies by just how busy we are that week, but most websites are up in 4 days and every website we’ve ever made has been up in a week (excluding custom-designed ones built from scratch that don’t leverage a ‘theme).

17. How can I promote my site so that people will actually visit it?

To get people to visit your site there are a number of online marketing tactics you can use, including: Search Engine Optimization (SEO), email marketing, social media marketing and Pay Per Click advertising.

In terms of SEO, all our sites are SEO optimized—although SEO depends largely on the content you’ve created. Having said that, all the content/text we create is SEO-optimized. Your listings are the best way to attract visitors via SEO, and you can upload the listings yourself or have us write an SEO-optimized version and upload it for you.

Email marketing, as discussed above can be done through MailChimp. Social media marketing is essentially Facebook. We currently do not handle the on-going management of that but there are several companies who do who can help you if you don’t have time to do your own social media marketing. We can however setup a Facebook page for you. We’d charge you $45—compared to many companies who charge over $100. Although honestly, it is so easy to setup even paying us money to do it is a little bit of a waste unless you truly are THAT busy.

18. Will my website work for people surfing on mobile devices?

Yes, our websites leverage ‘responsive design’, which means your website will be displayed, beautifully–across all devices.

19. How can I login to my site?

When we finish creating a site we send you the login information, including the website address, username and password. The website address is generally: www.YourSite.ca/wp-login.php

20. Do you offer domain names?

Yes and no. We could register your domain name for you, but we don’t recommend this. You always want to be the owner of your own domain name, you never want anyone else to register it for you because then THEY will own it. You can see how this could be a problem. If your website is successful and builds up a good reputation, then theoretically they could charge you an arm and a leg in the future to keep renting it from them.

We wouldn’t do that to you, but nonetheless we want you to be the master of your own domain.

Keep in mind that domain names will expire and you have to keep renewing them every year. The average domain name costs about $10 to register and then $10 every year. You can purchase multiple years at a time so that you don’t have to worry about it for a while.

21. What is hosting and do I need it?

Hosting is what keeps the internet running. Hosting companies have massive servers that store data online and allow internet users to access it 24/7. So yes, you need hosting to keep your website active.

We offer hosting for $120 per year, although you can go with another hosting company if you prefer. Included in our hosting is a branded email, so: yourname@YourSite.ca

22. Do you offer Search Engine Optimization Services?

Yes. The bulk of what matters to Google in terms of SEO is the content on your site (the other thing that matters is how many other websites link to your site—which we don’t help you with). So, in addition to making your site SEO-optimized we also offer you the content that can help you get highly-ranked on Google.

23. How can I make my website show up at the top of Google search results?

By having high-quality, SEO-optimized content.

There is another way to sort of ‘cheat’ SEO and to get to the top of Google. Click here to read our bog post about it.

24. Can I send weekly/monthly email newsletters?

Without platform you don’t have a built-in solution, however—there is a great FREE program that is more advanced than any real estate websites company can make, it’s called MailChimp. You can even put a lead-capturing tool on your website that will capture emails from your visitors (ideally) that will automatically store them in your MailChimp mailing list.

So, if you’re currently paying the standard $20-$50/month for an email-marketing platform, you can save even MORE money by switching to us (we can also save you money by offering you a free integrated CRM too, which real estate agents pay an average of $50 per month for—the savings with REwebsites is endless). If you’re asking “but what about the content they offer me”…well, you can find tons of great content on the internet.

The real ‘magic sauce’ for using a company like MailChimp (other than the fact it is free) is that you can make TARGETED email campaigns, which target different people based on their current position in the sales cycle. Targeted email marketing is too complex to explain here, but a quick Google search will fill you in on why its a better way to spend your email-marketing time and money.

25. Can I have a branded email with my account?

Abso-friggin-lutely—if you sign up for our hosting plan, which is $120 per year.
